The total number of members is 155 and 33 affiliates out of 54 countries.

 

28.– 30. June

The 5th IELA Partnering Event took take place from June 30th to July 2nd 2015 in Singapore.

It was attended by 389 delegates representing 220 companies from 55 countries. Dublin was the largest Industry Networking Event so far.

 

25.–28. June 2016

The 31st IELA Congress took place from June 25th to 28th 2016 at the DoubleTree by Hilton - Burlington Road Dublin, Ireland)

The event was attended by 241 delegates out of 128 members representing 48 countries. With 17 companions the total attendance was 258. Under the theme Inspire Business - Welcome Tomorrow Dublin was the largest Congress ever held in IELA's history.

IELA's 1st Operations Summit took place at the HKCEC.

Under the theme "The New Angle of Networking" IELA offered a fully sponsored event to the operational level of its member companies.

The Winter Seminar was held January 14th - 18th, again in Zurich, Switzerland.

The 2015 Winter Seminar was attended by 31 students from 26 IELA member companies and represented 17 countries.

The award for the best Student was given to Daniel Harding (CEVA Showfreight, UK) who received an IELA sponsored invitation to the 30th IELA Congress in Singapore.

WINTER SEMINAR, ZURICH

The Winter Seminar was held January 16th–20th, again in Zurich, Switzerland. IELA's experience from previous Winter Seminars truly influenced the unique character of this year's edition as classroom sessions and networking opportunities ignited a special synergy among the student participants.

The 2013 Winter Seminar was attended by 29 students from 21 IELA member companies and represented 15 countries. This worldwide coverage certainly added a varied, multi-national and interesting elements to the discussions and educational process. The students' work experience ranged from new-to-the business to seasoned veteran.

This year's recipient of the honor of being named Best Student is Mohd Rasyid Bin Abdullah of R.E. Rogers (Malaysia).

Membership WG. The group will place a big emphasis on the the ´White Spot´ areas of the world.

The need was raised to discuss the membership issue caused by the introduction of the new networking event ELL. The question was raised: is it really a threat to IELA or will it eventually disappear off the scene? All agreed that ELL was threat and it was proposed to invite non-members just after the 2012 Congress.

Secretariat. The performance of tfconnect was reviewed. The BOM would have been happy to carry on with them. However, with the introduction of ELL, this is now not a possible option any more.

Conversion. The change of the legal structure of IELA from a Co-operative to a non profit Association will take place at the 2012 Barcelona GA. It is reminded that a 75% vote in favour is needed to have the conversation to become effective.

Overall, the Seminar was very successful especially due to the networking and the possibility to meet people from around the world . It was pointed out that students want to stay connected. It was suggested working on tools and methods like the Ops Club to involve them into IELA.

Alan Hunter is appointed Executive Director of IELA. His role will primarily be a liaison person between the BOM, the secretariat and the members.

UFI Congress Singapore. Labelled as the biggest Congress to date, IELA was well represented by its Chairman Achim Lotzwick along with Robert Moore, James Ng and Ravinder Sethi.

The relationship between the LB and the BOM is very positive and healthy, with open discussions and full support from the LB.

Achim Lotzwick wants to create a partnering event similar to R.E. Rogers in the past) in order to network and maintain relationship with exhibition logistics freight brokers not (yet) being members of IELA.
            
The possibility of leaving tfconnect is being considered. At the January BOM meeting, two potential candidates having been identified  to take possibly over the role of our secretariat will be interviewed.

25th SILVER ANNIVERSARY  IELA CONGRESS in Paris,

France - under the theme 'BACK TO BASICS' !
Attendance: 75 members with 146 participants from 36 countries.

Achim Lotzwick who took over in December 2009 the 'acting'
Chairmanship is elected as IELA Chairman of the Board of
Management for the 12 months.
Alan Hunter is elected into the Board of Management and replaces Neil Goatcher who had resigned in December 2009.

Claude Bouyssière, Hans R. Brauchli and Ulrich Kasimir are
elected into the Legal Board. They replace Phil Powell, Guido
Fornelli and Thomas Luechinger, elected in June 2009 but who
resigned in December 2009.

Future Congresses: Seoul 2011 and Barcelona 2012. European
venues should be favoured as Congress destinations while IELA
is rebuilding. From experience, Congresses in Europe are always
very well attended.

Standards. The idea of an 'Outstanding Award' was introduced
but not discussed furthermore. A future theme for standards and
quality could be Green Logistics (ISO quality label, green label).

Customs. Reviewed customs forms, uploaded on website, update
process completed on time.

Training. Las Vegas had to be cancelled because of little interest
in membership. Next Winter Seminar in January 2011 in Zurich.

Organiser. The 'mission is recognition' project needs to be taken to the next level.

Membership. There is definitively an interest in the industry to join IELA.

The 5th Seniors Club Meeting (another Jubilee!) takes place in Brussels, Belgium. A record attendance of 26 persons (3 from Japan) who enjoyed thoroughly an exciting programme prepared
by Thierry and Jane Demeure . Everything including the weather was just perfect.

Legal matters. Both lawyers have signed a joint agreement and will hand it over to the Geneva Court. (which was done on 11 March 2010). Await now the final confirmation from the Court that this case is definitely settled and will then inform the members accordingly.

VAT. IELA is now VAT registered.

Theme of the 2010 Congress: 'Go back to basics'.

VAT. As from 2010,  IELA will apply for a VAT number and be registered.

PR: IELA News. It is agreed that hard copies are very costly and that, therefore, a PDF option will be submitted to members in Paris.

The BOM agreed that present management fee is not in balance with the services that IELA requires and that are being delivered. A substantial reduction must be reached.

New amended IELA logo needs to be registered with Swiss authorities.
